Welcome to Grasple
The optimal solution to create, edit and share open exercises for math & stats.
The Challenge: OER is still not a mainstream approach
The opportunities of Open Educational Resources (OER) are rarely questioned. There are many projects and funds in place to support the implementation of OER and working together to make education more openly accessible and affordable. Without the need to reinvent the wheel there is already a lot of high quality material available. Nevertheless it is still not a mainstream approach when designing a course and choosing learning materials. Some of the reasons include:
- Lack of time to check the quality of the OER learning material,
- No award for spending time in OER creation,
- Concerns whether the materials match with the learning path and goals
- The material is not designed to match specific subjects, like math for nurses, math for builders, etc
- Most freely available learning content is impossible to alter or make your own versions
The Solution: Tools like Grasple, that make OER adoption easy.
At Grasple we have a solution to the OER challenges. We developed our learning and teaching platform, as a user-friendly, plug & play solution for teaching and learning mathematics and statistics. A place where teachers can find, edit and create (openly licensed) exercises and easily share them with colleagues and students. It is also a tool for students to access and practice those learning materials with additional didactic features like adaptive feedback. Grasple supports the cycle of exercising, receiving personal feedback, adaptive practicing, learning and repeating. By using curated and high quality OER students learn the basics in small steps and apply the learnings in context cases in class or in LMS assignments.
Working with a large number of international higher educational institutions, our database in high quality OER material is consistently growing. The teacher has the control to use and adapt the open content available or create their own material. This ensures a good match between learning objectives and exercise material. Neither students nor teachers need coding skills to be able to use the material.
Grasple’s infrastructure connects three different groups of stakeholders:
- Educators contribute by creating and curating learning resources,
- individual students contribute by learning, providing feedback and by (optionally) sharing their learning analytics and thus supporting the adaptivity and intelligence of the whole system so that all data can be studied by researchers and the evidence-based insights can be used by all users, and
- educational institutions that benefit from having a platform where they can share exercises internally and provide summative assessments.
The higher the social impact the higher the quality and the better the platform becomes as a truly adaptive learning platform.

What do teachers say?
"[The OER community] is a different kind of community because you're trying to help each other so that we can help students succeed. What I saw in Grasple matched the level of OpenStax and it was very robust and I really liked that."
"As a mathematics lecturer, my students found Grasple to be an excellent tool in enhancing their understanding my courses content. The open-source structure of Grasple allowing me to leverage a wealth of pre-generated content and tailor it to the topics within our course. Moreover, the feedback from my students has been overwhelmingly positive. They appreciated the immediate and detailed feedback provided by the questions, which helps them understand their mistakes and learn from them in real-time. Also, thanks to the accessibility of Grasple, this ensured that the students could engage with the material effectively, without confusion on how to do so"
